Night Vision 2.24

How can you resist the urge to go out after the shitty winter we went through ? Unless you're out of town and just spending the summer here, and normally live somewhere tropical, you just can't.

And Montreal is in no short supply of shit to do to make your soul bounce and your soles groove. On top of the Jazz Fest, currently occupying downtown, the Just For Laughs festival is kickin' off eminently, and we have more than our share of vibrant club nights to visit.

So let's quit the fidgeting around and head straight to the chase.

News en vrac

If you missed Paul Kalkbrenner for his North American premiere last November at Lobby Bar, there's no excuse for you to miss him when he passes by Balroom on July 19th for a surprise live set. Paul just released his new EP, Altes Kamuffel, on Ellen Allien's label, BPitch Control.

Also improbable but true, Playhouse's My My are already back, after their smash Piknic performance at Mutek - it's happening on August 7th, at Dizzyphunk. Salon Daomé will be on fire that night !

We missed out on the news last week but on Sept. 26th. I remember seeing them shortly after the Bell Center was inaugurated, during the nineties, for the Wild Mood Swings tour. Even if the rumors are true and Bob Smith is really sedated, their backcatalogue is so fuckin' impressive it cannot be a bad show, no ?

05/07

At Helm, it's Arsen's turn to put the funk in your drinks, and the vodka in your brain. Or is that the opposite ? Free !

There's something wild going on at Mix Thursdays. Boston's DJ Endo will crack down your headz alongside Rhys Taylor, Sarcastic and Evafresh. When the fever breaks...

06/07

The Eresys boys are once again touching down at L'Appartement for a night of deep minimal techno; this time around, you can hear the talents of Le Boucher, Fu Ancko & Saturnin.

Bordello is launching @ Bistro de Paris, and let me tell you something : it's free, it's friendly, and it's delicious (musically and visually). So you pretty much have no excuse to miss it. Residents Romeo Kardec & myself will be DJ'ing with the UK's Pakman, and you better get ready to dance, folks !

At Le Social's Loose Joints disco night, our trio of skilfull residents welcome the UK's Johnny 5. Old school jams and wide smiles are something you might see if you head over...

Cadanse, Microzoo's monthly, takes place at Salon Daomé with Maus & Nathan Burns on the decks all night. You know you've got good moves - prove it.

For all-nighters, a serious night of funky house awaits at Stereo : Bombay's boss Miguel Graça plays alongside Epsilonlab's big boss Eloi Brunelle, all night.

07/07

One year, one month and one day after the devil never came (on 06/06/06), things are getting surreal all around. People escaping death become insane partygoers, and the city will soon run out of clubs to host them all !

At Academy, the 2nd edition of Compact Disco takes place. Offering you disco on a golden plate are Eddie Lewis, Eduardo Cabral, Raw Soul and Slyde, who'll take turns all night to bring out the best in everybody.

At Zinc Lounge, Miles Moore's new home on Saturdays, another fine edition of HeadzUp! takes place with guests Façade, from Philadelphia, and your very own Clifford Brown. Come and taste the best cocktails in town - the lounge is gorgeous and best of all, there's no cover ! 1148 Mont-Royal East.

It's Cat Atomique's birthday and what better way can you find to celebrate than heading to the Mile End Bar, where Omni & Bender will battle for her attention while trying to drink up all the liquids located near the bar ? Get a panoramic vision at Panorama.

08/07

Piknic is the word you can find on everybody's lips. Dirty lipreading ? Indeed. It's time to set back after a few weeks of rockin' beats... and appreciate rockin' beats from a few upcoming DJs and producers. Opening the day is Eresys' Christian Thibeault, followed by a live set from Upbeat, a delightful minimal set by Axel Klein, and Spain's Alienata.

10/07

Dizzyphunk proposes a duo as exotic as an exotic car can be : Maus & Nathan Burns. The Tuesday night tradition involves cheap gin & tonics, dancin', and seducin'.

Next week

Chromeo stop by Club 1234... Mirrorballs go live on Ste-Catherine street... and it gets Risqué to go to Piknic, apparently !

Until then... stay fresh !
