Kickin' It with Robeat

I got to Théâtre Plaza right before midnight. After a brief chat with ½ of Robeat, I headed upstairs to discover this intriguing room – a beautifully decorated open theatre space, with a large gallery overlooking the main dance floor. The DJ booth was set up on stage, in front of screens that displayed VJ Akolad's work. The lighting, however sparse, was very efficient.

Sadly, I missed the opening DJs, but caught the main events. First, our own Clifford Brown, who did what he does best without apology or shame: getting a party started. A solid selection of upbeat electro tracks ensured that we got to Robeat in one piece. But Robeat didn't seem to care that we were already tired, beaten and bruised, and relentlessly handed out one freaky electro track after the other, non stop until we could dance no more, thereby kicking the shit out of the clavecin.

The only low-point was the venue: however beautiful and intriguing, Théâtre Plaza ridiculously lacked ventilation. The heat wasn't so bad, but it was simply impossible to breathe inside, thanks to a heavy fog of cigarette smoke. This situation prompted my early disappearance from the dance floor. Luckily, this critical flaw should be a non-issue within a few days, thanks to the smoking ban.

A fun evening from Robeat, and definitely a party-people crew I'll be keeping a Mirror-Shaded eye on from now on.

Robeat returns on June 9th.
