Night Vision 1.12

(Co-written with Clifford Brown)

Haven't we talked about Tiga and Neon enough already ? Of course we have, but Tiga's album launch at La SAT Saturday still remains last weekend's highlight. The Peer Pressure after party, featuring Jordan Dare, was quite a memorable little shindig too.

I wasn't wowed by the 7b tour that stopped by Parking last Thursday: it wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either. Folks from Lattakeuse Dimage kept things interesting while the place filled up, though, and it had been a long time since I'd heard Prodigy's "Out of Space".

Jordan Dare & Sean Kosa gave pretty good sets at Balroom on Sunday, and it looks like things will be heating up quite a bit over the summer over there. Definitely check the place out if you haven't already.

Let's have a look at what's coming up this week !

News en Vrac

Our prestigious friend Boys Noize, a.k.a. Kid Alex, has confirmed he'll be stopping by on June 24th. The location is yet unknown - isn't that exciting ? The guy has recently remixed iRobots' "Spacer Frau" to good effect and his soon to be released remix of Tiga's "Move my Body" is a KILLER track. The kind of little tune that could easily blow your sound system to kingdom come ! So join us when he rolls by - we'll just watch him blow whichever dancefloor he'll control !

The fine DiskHo fellas have confirmed yet another excellent booking choice that solidifies their position on the Montreal electro scene : yes my friends, the one & only Trentemoller will be here on Oct. 27th for your beautiful eyes only ! The Poker Flat artist, after a 2 years break, came back on the scene with a bang last year with a series of hit singles and his recent remixes (Sharon Philipps, Royksopp, etc...) are currently rocking your mother's heart out. Trentelloween's location has yet to be announced, but wherever he'll be, I'll be !

So, what's going down in our town this week?

Thursday 11/05

No guest at Parking this week, but then again: what's not to like about a quiet evening with Mini at home? I don't think it'll be quiet at all, though…

Living la vida loca in Villeray ? Café De Lima proposes a double-dose of electro with Axel Klein & Omni, for its fresh Adrenaline weekly.

Friday 12/05

Kick le Clavecin will take place at Théâtre Plaza with some pretty decent DJ's, including Robeat & Clifford Brown. This promises to be one hell of a blow up and the dancing will be hectic. Be there early !

Bliss will be playing at La SAT for yet another edition of Voyeur, supporting his buddy Jordan Dare. Also on the bill: MSTRKRFT, who will be back in July at the Jazz Fest with The Juan Maclean.

(Okay, okay – so we're siding with Robeat out of self-interest: sue us)

Well, here's our Balls & Shades Public Service Announcement for the week: to all of you who will be checking out Kick le… Clavecin (and to the few of you who will opt for MSTRKRFT), you should know that electro-house DJs G O'brien & Kal will be deejaying at Aria, therefore prompting you to continue the party all night long.

Saturday 13/05

The Stills are back in town to launch their latest album, Without Feathers. It's about time, boys. It's all going down at Spectrum for a mere 20$ at the door, and you can bet your sweet ass that all the hipsters in town will be there to strut their stuff.

Maus and Miguel Graça will play the night way at Aria. A nice electro-tech-house line-up: Miguel is on fire these days, so don't miss
his set this Saturday, and never ever miss Maus! Show up or don't, but it's ultimately your loss.

Sunday 14/05

You don't have many options if you want to have fun on a Sunday night. In fact, you don't have any, so you have No Excuse not to show up at Balroom to hear Sean Kosa & Bender. That is, of course, if you want to have fun. Otherwise, go home and die.

Wednesday 17/05

They might have graced us with a visit no more than a few months ago, but the legendary Depeche Mode are back - and we ain't complaining !! They'll make the Centre Bell resonate with a black celebration, will play the angel - and some classic tracks as well - and bring back memories you long thought buried !

Next Week

Our man John Starlight brings his germaniac ass over at Parking, in his Zombie Nation disguise, for a sweaty night of hard electro madness. Mini's booking choices are always ace, and this one is a redux : Starlight was here for Halloween '04 and it was unbelievably crazy. Miss it at your own fuckin' peril. Piknic Électronik begins !! Headman rolls his rolling basslines into town for yet another I Love Neon and Stephan Bodzin contaminates Balroom at the No Excuse night. Busy, vous avez dit busy ? You'll need some Guru and some dough to get through this ordeal alive.
