Laurent Garnier @ Parking

It was almost midnight when I stepped in Parking, the Amherst Street dive that serves the cheapest drinks and vibes in town, but somehow still manages to pack the biggest bang for the buck.

It was Overdose night, and Laurent Garnier was in town.

Even as I arrived Garnier had started what would become a spectacular 3h+ set: the place was packed, everyone was dancing, and the music was unstoppable.

Starting things off with some floaty techno, he moved on into electro-tech rapidly and stayed there for quite a while, taking care to set the crowd on fire from time to time with sweet sucker punches from the past ("Song 2", anyone?).

Rest assured Laurent Garnier's selection remained on the relevant side of things, so we got quite a bit of new music too, delivered with all the skill and finesse of an experience professional.

It was an electrifying night: one of those few classics that are likely to rank amongst the year's best, and that should put to shame anyone who might've doubted Laurent Garnier relevance at Montréal best night, bar-none. Bravo!
