Jeff Samuel, Trapez Artist

Slowly making his mark throughout the last decade, Seattle-based musician/DJ Jeff Samuel is an already well-known funky-minimalist by the circles of electronic music connoisseurs that haunt every big city (and some disreputable villages).

Jeff Samuel began to DJ in 1996. One year later he was already starting to produce his own tracks, eventually attracting the attention of labels Lo-fi Stereo, Dan Bell's 7th City and Riley Reinhold's Trapez imprint. Most of Samuel's material was released with Trapez, but he's recently been associated with Steve Bug's Pokerflat label, notably after having remixed the Guido Schneider track "Oh my Buffer" in 2004, and DJ-mixing the label's fourth compilation in 2005. Nevertheless, he's definitely best at home with Trapez, fitting in perfectly with Triple R's label roster.

Future plans include a debut full-length album, a mix CD, and impressing the hell out of us Montréalais tonight: after a "failed" Piknic gig plagued by cold weather and rain, he's getting another chance to show off at Dizzy (now at Academy Dancehall). MightyKat is also on the bill, making this already promising evening even more interesting.

Crybabies beware: you won't be able to get out of this one on the count of the weather!

You can hear a Jeff Samuel mix on his web site.

Never would have guessed that a Seattle dude is on both Triple R and Steve Bug's label. I always thought we had to do mass importing for Decibel Fest. Guess there are a few locals. Thanks for the link.
P.S. If anyone needs a couch to crash on for next year's, let me know.

Well, actually, he's from Ohio and moved to Seattle... I'll write a few words about tonight's gig tomorrow. I'll consider that couch offer if I win the lottery ! (then again, if I should win the lottery, I wouldn't need a couch, but well, you know, I'm still a bit dizzy)
