Dust in the Wind

AN INTERVIEW WITH DUSTY KID

A name has been on everyone's lips lately. Well, maybe not on your mother's lips, but at least on every self-respecting tech DJ's lips. Granted, that's far from making up for a big part of the population, but you have to know one thing : Dusty Kid rocks. Hard.

This kid from Italy, also part of the Boxer-signed act Duoteque, will appear at Microtek V.6, an all-night event going on at Théâtre Sans Fil. This is a Noerg event, and their last time at the Sans Fil saw none else than Extrawelt coming down and rocking the decks. An event not to miss ? You bet your ass.

You have lots of good exports, in your country, like Remo, Più, Fabrizio Mammarella... How's the electronic music scene in Italy ?

It's not so important here; I think there's more and more people that listen to this kind of music in the other countries of Europe than in Italy.

People have started to notice you a lot since your releases on Systematic (Tsunamy & Milk) as well as the new-ravish track "The Cat". How can you sound so different on two successive releases ? Is Dusty Kid all over the place, musically speaking ?

Dusty Kid is not a purist of any kind of music - he likes to do everything he wants to do :)

What's the difference between producing Dusty Kid & Duoteque tracks, besides having to work alone ?

When I work alone, I know from the beginning that I can go everywhere, with no compromises, and just not worry about the style.

What lead you to produce tracks in the first place ?

The first word I said, when I was a baby, wasn't "mama" or "daddy"; it was "record" !

Do you have a specific artist you're dreaming of playing with ?

"I ♥ Richie"... so guess ;)

What's the most incredible thing that happened to you while touring ?

Signing t-shirts with my face printed on them !

Do you have a favorite part of the world you like to play in ?

I really don't know, I guess anywhere people like my music is the right place :)

What can montrealers expect from your live set ?

Lot of noise, some melodies, and psychedelia.
