Night Vision 2.03

If you manage to dig your way out of this icy shell surrounding your dwelling, you might be surprised to find out that there are quite a few things to do over the coming week-end. That is, if you can ever stop obsessing over the sad fact that we are not really geographically gifted here in Montreal, at least when it comes to the poor weather.

But what we lack in tropicool, we quite make up for in sheer choice of entertainment. So while Groove Armada, Jesse Rose, Undo and Cajuan all play in the same downtown Barcelona club this Friday, here's what us montrealers can do.

News en vrac

The "vrac" of the title lies this week, as we don't have much to reveal.

You probably already knew that Water Lilly was coming to Overdose, right ? March 1st.

Benny Benassi's gig at Stereo, on February 9th, will be spiced up by two very cool locals: Mini will warm up the room, and Bender will get to close for the Italian superstar of cheese.

The F.A.M.E. launch party has been rescheduled for February 8th, and will feature two soul-shattering tag teams : Akarien's Omni Vs Mirrorballs' Clifford Brown, and Turbo's Romeo Kardec Vs Sean Kosa. It should hurt.

Also, Italy's DJ Remo, who's known around here to be the driving force behind "Black Sabrina's" kick-ass bassline, will be in town for the second time this year, at Mile End Bar's Panorama weekly on Saturday March 31st.

Thursday 25/01

Saphir sounds like the place to be tonight, with yet another very nice electro-breaks line-up : Bind Vs Vancouver's Evader MC, Fu Ancko, as well as a live set by Irish expat Nellboy. Cheap booze & excited young nymphs + nice music = heaven ?

At S.A.T.'s mix sessions, Epsilonlab launches another fine album, Paul Keeley's "Blunt Etiquette", and all the friends are reunited to celebrate : Jan Pienkowski, The Autist, Keeley himself & Éloi Brunelle will take care of the sounds, and Athanore, Sakara, Futil, Les Crazys Tapis, ThisIsNotDesign and Chef_Joseph share the visuals.

Over at Pas-Sages, it's time for Diagraf, Deebac & Freeken to shake the turntables.

Friday 26/01

At Stereo, "Voices" returns! This time around you'll get to hear the two Martins, namely Rave Montreal's Creator & MV, AKA Martin Villeneuve. They shared the same bill at Aria for RM19 a few months back and let me assure you they were on FIRE. Don't miss this one folk - it's gonna be a killer!

The 25th (!!!) Soirée Risquée takes place at Academy Dancehall, with Vincent Lemieux DJ'ing, and live performances by Deadbeat and Crackhaüs. If you like your sounds crackling and glitchy, it's for you !

For those of you who prefer loft parties, slap yourself in the face and spit twice : an event called "Beaver" takes place at 3634 St-Laurent. Billed an "all night dance party", it will feature the delicate sounds of Jordan Dare & Sean Kosa. 5$ at the door gets you into a land of usually forbidden pleasures...

Saturday 27/01

At Vinyl, the New Ravers on the Block are ready to attack your ears !! Marinelli and North open, and the NROTB are closing, and we've been advised that you'd be better off bringing earplugs. Hangin' tough !

At Academy Dancehall, another Lazy Days Session takes place, with Mike Fresco & Fred Everything. Soul, not mind !

Sunday 28/01

No Excuse proposes what some people, at NYE's Deep Blue event, described as "sonic terrorism" : a 5 hours tag team between Vega & Bender. Come over & hear how it's done.

At Saphir's Beat me Up weekly, king of dreads Haris Pilton plays live. The word on the street is that he's pretty dope, so check him out !

Tuesday 30/01

Telephunk sees the return of Soundshaper, who'll play alongside Nathan Burns.

Next week

Hell freezes over & Bender pays hommage to his mentor Stephan Bodzin @ No Excuse. 'Nuff said.

Until then: keep your brain on the ice !
