Yeah, so there isn't much going on this week… I guess we'll take some time off from clubbing and start writing articles again, eh?
It's the summer syndrome : every year around the same period, things quiet down and people get tired. Is it too hot ? Have we already spent all the booze money that daddy lent us ? We've been experiencing the first phase of that eminently interesting phenomenon, and it looks like it's ongoing this week-end...
Week-End Review
We got to Les Saints pretty late, and were greeted with the revelation that it's the Gravity afterhours that's been recycled into what they call a "show bar". The drinks were expensive - at least for a Thursday night - and the place was far from packed. MSTRKRFT were already on the decks, spinning thir productions & remixes as well as some old school classics. We still haven't quite figured out why some fleshy, half naked drunk jailbaits were dancing on the stage, though.
Was Petite Patrie ready for electro? Evidently not, as last Friday's Kick Le… Clavecin party wasn't really one since no one showed up. However good the music selection might've been, it all seems pretty pointless in an empty Théâtre Plaza. Better luck next time?
On the same night, Microzoo's Ghostly International event at Centre Fractal got a pretty decent turn out. No complaints here, just a great evening of "minimal cool".
On Saturday, Gene Farris visited Aria. Marco G opened with his usual explosive blend of electro-tech, eventually handing over the reigns to the Chicago veteran. Farris' started with an efficient selection of warmer house, which was a nice change of weather for the usally tech-ier Aria. However, Mr. Farris stumbled and fell into a pit of generic tracks halfway through. From what we heard, the man was tired and didn't wish to go on any longer. Well, it showed, and lucky for us the management decided to call in a true pro to conclude the evening. Maus showed up and once again proceeded to save the day… err, night… or whatever.
Tuesday, the Academy's Dizzy crew delivered the goods once more. The establishment's new high-tech membership system is now in full effect… So I hope you got your card!

Things are looking great for Balroom's No Excuse night. Next month, the weekly will welcome guests Vega on the 6th, and Boston's Jeff Grosse on the 20th. On September 3, DJ Remo will be in for a visit from Italy… In preparation for the event, we recommend learning the lyrics to "Black Sabrina" and practicing your own choreography.
If you like to cut things - or people - up, you'll be glad to learn that the mighty Scissor Sisters will be in town on October 11th at Metropolis. High pitched voices & Elton John costumes are to be expected.
Their fellow queens the Pet Shop Boys are showing up at the Place des Arts on the 10th of October. Last time they played Théâtre St-Denis. What's next, a church ? The PM's pied-à-terre in Montreal ? These boys are growing old... No mistake, they're still pretty good dance music producers, but if they can't handle the heat of a real venue, what the fuck are they doing on a world tour ?

Hmm, wow! Really! This is a first for a Thursday: we got nothing to recommend, except maybe staying home and taking it easy… If you really must go out, then you have but one choice option: the excellent David Laguer will be playing Circus Afterhour all-night long.
This we'll just mention : Misstress Barbara DJ's at Overdose and you know what it means... so we won't say it.

Another edition of Conduct takes place at Aria. This time, the bill will be shared by Mini, G O'Brien and guest Omni. If you've never heard Mini at Aria, this might be a good occasion to check out how her selection sounds on a good sound system.
Laidback grooves are to be heard at Green Room as Thomas Von Party keeps the love flowing with electro, rock & his special trademarked blend of moonwalking on the ceiling.
Saturday 29/07
The Goods take place at Sala Rossa. We never mentioned them before because, well, we're mainly covering electro events. But we listen to other styles of music too, you know ? So Josh Deep is the guest, and good old deep grooves crackin' up your smile and forcing your feet to move on the dance floor are the idea.
Aria, again, provides the only viable option for the end of the evening… Competent & entertaining Marco G opens, while the lovely and talented Maus concludes. No Farris in sight.

Epsilonlab throw their multicolored party towels on the grounds of Parc Jean-Drapeau and take over the decks at Piknic. Experienced fellas like Miles Moore, Alexandre Bilodeau, Paul Keeley & unpredictable Éloi Brunelle will share their musical knowledge with y'all, and if you know what's good for you, I'll see you there.
This week's edition of No Excuse will showcase guest Saturnin, who will play alongside residents Bender & Sean Kosa. Drop by and, like us, crash headfirst into the working week with no air bag.

August begins with another Dizzy night, at Academy. This week, Bruno Pronsato visits for a Musique Risquée night with resident Vincent Lemieux. The lovely club will soon go private and may still be accepting new people this week… hurry up!
The Editors play La Tulipe. If you thought that Interpol were doing it right - we won't make you change your mind, but instead strongly advise you to check these talented copycats out. Almost like the real thing ! And how could you resist a band with a lyrical line that says : "You'll speak when you're spoken to" ?!
She Wants Revenge might not be Colder, but they sure try really hard to be Joy Division too ! But don't be fooled, fools : we'll still be among the crazed out crowd invading Spectrum to see them perform their melancholic songs live.

Wednesdays are the new Saturdays ! At least at Lola Lounge, where the crazyness erupts and the dancers are losing limbs at an alarming rate. Yesterday was Astro-Nutz, celebrating Thomas Von Party's landing / return to normal life in Montreal after a brief trip to Berlin, and this coming edition will also have something special in store for you.
Miles Moore & Eloi Brunelle will be at Academy for Headz Up, a monthly event hosted by Sunny D. Advance tickets on sale for $4 at Atom Heart, Moog Audio & M.E.M. - $6 at the door.
Next Week
Gary Numan crashes his cars at Le National. Jordan Dare returns for Voyeur's seventh edition at La SAT, which will feature a live performance from the UK's Motor. Malente drops by Saphir, while Parking welcomes both Smash TV and Tommie Sunshine. Looks like things are going back to busy bizness !
