Night Vision 2.16

The horror of being sick is always floating above your head like Damoclès' sword. And of course, the constant fuckin' rain doesn't help your organism to provide you with an ideal defense mechanism. And so I spent all of last week-end locked inside, unable to move. Missed a few things. Didn't regret a few others.

It's a brand new week-end that's waiting now, so let's not ponder over past regrets, and head straight to the club's door with a flask hidden in our back pocket !

*News en Vrac*

I love Piknic. You probably know that by now. My best memories of the last four summers are probably buried there, somewhere under the Calder. Or at the bottom of a drink heated by a more-than-friendly sun. And when I learned that Josh Wink would probably be there on June 24th, I liked it.

The guests for the Mutek week-end have also been announced. Two Piknics will take place, a very nice strategy that seems to work every time. On Saturday June 2nd, we'll have international superstars MyMy, Claude VonStroke and Audion (aka Matthew Dear), as well as locals Chic Miniature. And on Sunday June 3rd, it's up to Heartthrob, Digitaline, Jesse Somfay, Sutekh and the fuckin' Wighnomy Brothers to entertain our ears & feet. Holy !

The DiskHo boys have announced who'll be the first guest at the première of their new afterhours event Hi-Tek, on June 1st. And it's none else than techno legend Carl Craig. With Mutek's regular programming, the Piknic and now this, those of you still standing on the Monday morning following that CRAZY week-end will get a Mirrorballs.ca medal.

Closer in time, but nonetheless as impressive, the Turbo Recordings Label Party that was waiting in the shadows to kick you in the nuts has made its lineup known : on top of Thomas Von Party, Chromeo's Pee Thugg will perform a DJ set and the main course are the two most recent Turbo-powered horses : Russia's The Proxy and Germany's D.I.M. ! If you're a big fan of eardrum destruction, let me warn you : this one's not to miss.

For once, it's a quiet Thursday in the city. Nothing is going on at Pas-Sages, Mini doesn't have any notable guest at Overdose, and it's a fine, sunny day. So why don't you head for Helm after work, to grab a beer and talk your way out of a threesome with the devil ? Marinelli provides the fine-brewed beats, and the Outremont & Mile End girls provide the view.

But of course, there's still a dose of SONIC DIRT waiting for you at Saphir's Mix Thursdays, as two live acts competing for "sleaziest in town" are proposed : Pad Class (the name says it all) and moustached porn king Tony Ezzy. On top of that are soulful DJs Scott C, Melon & Rhys Taylor.

It's time for the 27th Soirée Risquée at Academy Dancehall ! It's a tradition, and once again minimal fans won't be disappointed; Akufen, Ernesto & Vincent Lemieux will share the decks.

A very special guest will touch down tonight and grace the Main Hall's desk with his magic : Joakim. Founding figure of France's label Tigersushi, the man is a "hors pair" remixer and quite the songwriter. Who can resist the funky synth line that drives his hit "Drumtrax" ?! Not me ! The man is on at 12:00 sharp, and right after him Cherry Cola closes the night. Hurray for frenchies !

At Le Social's FREE Loose Joints disco night, residents Chris Paré and Davey Lahteenmaa become DFA, better known in the martini circles as the infamous "Disco From Above" duo, two cats who often end up drinking all the bottles that your aunt's liquor cabinet can countain. They promise you an orgy of DFA tracks, and will duck under the decks if James Murphy enters the room. 1445 Bishop.

Eresys' monthly gig at l'Appartement welcomes a Spectral Sounds recording artist, Seth Troxler. That's a whole lot of beats for one guy ! Also on the bill are residents Mono-Poly and Joystick.

And Alizé's not sleeping on its laurels yet - the sixth edition of the monthly Citizens party is taking place under an "urban jungle" theme. Reunited on the bill are Dub Logick, Jah Style, JMoney, Seismologick, RCola & Blake Market. Except everything from breakbeat to reggae, jungle, dubstep & drum n' bass. All this for the friendly price of 5$ !

The Lazydays sessions continue at Academy Dancehall, with Fred Everything coming back as a monthly resident. It's an incredible chance to hear this superstar in an intimate setting, for a nice price.

At the Mile End Bar's Panorama night, Bender welcomes X-Cube, with whom he'll play for the first time. It promises to one hell of a floaty, techy musical program ! Get on the guest list at www.noctambules.tv !

Mary Hell now teams up with Cherry Cola to bring you beats every week at Saphir's Beat me Up. This week, their guest is none else than red-headed animal Sean Kosa.

A new weekly launches at Le Social, and it's called Bite my Style. Curated by our very good friend Sunday Luv, the night proposes hard beats, queers, freaks & a circus atmosphere every week, in a classy setting. The party that starts it all features a heavy line-up; it will feature live performances by Sigrid Elliot (Chicago), Nellboy (Ireland), Marauders and Music for Money, as well as DJ sets by Mexico's DJ Sixx and yours truly, Clifford Brown. It's always free, always fun, and always a pleasure to see you.

*08/04*

The Autist is the guest of honor at the newly joint Dizzy + Telephunk night. Tuesday fun @ Salon Daomé !

*09/04*

At Foufounes Électriques, Omnikrom team up with Numéro# to bring out the kids. Faites du bruit ! Together, these two bands have an insanely wide army of groupies, so if you like screaming girls, this one's for you !

LCD Soundsystem's "Sound of Silver" tour touches down in Montreal, at Spectrum. Jordan Dare will provide the beats, and James Murphy's gang will provide the sonic beating. I heard that the show was starting pretty early, so don't miss !

*Next week*

Dirty Bird's Justin Martin kicks the Academy down ! Some noisy europeans invade Musée Juste Pour Rire for the Turbo label party ! The weather continues to improve & mini-skirts make a comeback !

Until then, keep your hormones on a leash !
